I guest I don't get it or I'm not cool or something but I don't get the Microsoft commercials with Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld ... all I can say is WTF??
The newer "I'm a PC" commercials are not much better, but at least the message they are trying to project is fairly clear.
Microsoft has done much better in the past with their commercial from about a year and a half ago.
That one gives me the chills and makes me want to run out and buy Microsoft products, and considering my heavy lean towards Linux and Open Source is an accomplishment. Frankly their "Imagine" and "Potential" ads from about two years ago were probably their best ads to date and they really should look at getting that PR firm back.
I will say the references to The Matrix are somewhat creepy, but this version never actually ran AFAIK and just a cut down version was ever seen and that did not have the matrix like beginning.
On the other hand this Novell SUSE Linux commercial just makes me want to run away as to how uncool and boring it is. The high point in is the Republica background music which I really like, but it's not enough to win me on image and the video it's self is uninspiring.

CoD4 Rocks
Well Unreal Tournament 3 seems to be going down the tubes, at least the PC version. There is a major lack of players and really the UT99 players don't like it because it's not UT99 and the UT2K4 players don't like it because it's too different as far as weapons balance goes. I personally like it, but there is nobody I know playing it so the network effect is pulling me to CoD4 where people I know actually play.
I like CoD4, I do miss the bigger maps and vehicles, but generally it's a good game and is a lot of fun. Domination is alot like Warefare in UT3 and the DM is pretty good. The only thing I did not like about it is the fact that you have to unlock weapons and so you initially get stuck with some crappy weapons, but it does not take too long to move up the ranks and unlock weapons at least, especially if you go to one of the grinder servers playing 32p shipment.

Raptor's Editorial about the future of Unreal Tournament
Raptor over at planetunreal has posted an editorial about the future of Unreal Tournament.
His points are all valid in that the main point being how Epic has failed to deliver on the game that they were hyping when they started development. Gone was the Conquest mode and many of the cool features the game was supposed to have and the in depth single player mode. He does not really give much of a glance of the future of UT as Epic is now being very quiet about the future ... possibly they have learned from their past mistake.
My personal opinion is that this all seems like 2K3 and 2K4 situation where 2K3 was rushed out the door to meet a publisher's deadline and 2K4 was much closer to the final version that Epic originally intended. Epic will most certainly come out with a sequel to UT3, call it UT3.5, that delivers on most of the promises that were originally made. One of the things that is mentioned in the article is that Epic is under contract with Midway to produce another Unreal Tournament game, so as long as Midway is still interested after the lackluster reception of the current game another one will be produced.

WOW some time since I've posted last
Been a long time since I've posted last ... part of that is I've been busy playing UT3 and ET:QW. UT3 is still my favorite game to play, I love the pace and action of both VCTF and WAR game styles. Quake Wars is also a good game and nice for a change now and then. I've been considering playing COD4 and it probably will replace my alternative to UT3 when I want something slower paced.
On the topic of games and UT3, I'm still very disappointed at Epic over the game coming out so half baked initially, after the second patch it's removed most the things I find irritating about the UI and gotten rid of most the exploits that I'm aware of. One one big problem remaining is that there are not enough players and you always seem to get on a server with some Griefer that loves to piss people off and spawn kill rather than actually play the game. Other games have problems with Griefers, it just seems to me that UT3 has more, possibly because there are not enough people playing it dilute out the assholes.
Epic has finally released a bonus pack for UT3 featuring a DM map, and two CTF maps. More info can be found on Planet Unreal.
