As far as for this system the following is the list of components I've selected
- Corsair Carbide Air 240 Case
- Corsair H100i GTX Liquid CPU Cooler
- Intel Core i7-5930K Socket 2011 v3 CPU
- ASRock X99M Killer Micro ATX Motherboard
- PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610W power supply
I had already picked out the Carbide Air 240 already for a case as it's a rather nice mATX Cube format case with great airflow and a dual chamber design. I decided to keep with the Air 240 case as the only downside with that case is the lack of space for an optical drive and the few times I need one I can easily use an external USB DVD drive.
The case can also take a 240mm Radiator in the front so I had already planned on including a Corsair Hydro H100i GTX all in one liquid cooler in my originally planned system and it is compatible with LGA2011v3 so I kept it with the updated build.
Because of the change of socket the motherboard will be different than what I originally planned. There is not a huge selection of LGA2011v3 Micro ATX motherboards and so ended up choosing the ASRock X99M Killer motherboard as it has received some good reviews and I've grown to like ASRock motherboards because of the combination of features & price their boards have.
I'm not totally happy with the Black & Red color scheme and would have preferred either all Black or Back and Copper (like the Z170M Extreme4 in my original plan). I also have no interest in the E2200 Killer NIC and would prefer dual Intel NICs instead but I can use the on-board Intel NIC instead of the Killer NIC.
Other components on my short list.
- G.Skill Ripjaws V Quad Channel Kit F4-3000C15Q-16GVR
- Crucial MX200 M.2 250GB SSD CT250MX200SSD4
- Seagate Hybrid Drive ST1000LM014 1TB
- XFX Radeon R9 380X 4GB XXX OC
I would really like to get a set of CORSAIR Dominator Platinum instead of the G.Skill set mostly for aesthetics but can't see the extra 60% just for that as the G.Skill has the same or better specs.
The Silencer 610W power supply is a left-over from my previous gaming PC, I'm currently planning on using it as it's a high quality single rail design, my only concern is Haswell compatibility because of it's age. Older power supplies don't always behave well with the Haswell's ultra low power sleep modes so may be required to swap it out for a Cooler Master or Corsair power supply if I have issues with the system coming out of sleep.
Until I get a few more components I won't have more to post.
